Bangladesh recorded 10 more child deaths linked to measles and related symptoms in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning, according to the latest data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Among the latest fatalities, one child died from a laboratory-confirmed measles infection, while the remaining nine deaths were classified as suspected measles-related cases.

Health authorities also reported a continued rise in infections during the same period, with 1,083 new suspected measles cases and 53 newly confirmed infections recorded nationwide.

The latest figures indicate that the country’s ongoing measles outbreak remains a major public health concern, with hospitals and health facilities continuing to treat a large number of children suffering from fever, rash and other complications associated with the disease.

According to DGHS data, Bangladesh has recorded a total of 8,772 confirmed measles cases since the outbreak began on 15 March this year. During the same period, the total number of suspected cases has climbed to 66,023.

The death toll has also continued to rise steadily. So far, 88 deaths have been officially confirmed as measles-related, while another 467 deaths have been reported among suspected patients showing symptoms consistent with the disease.

Despite the growing number of infections, health officials said many patients have recovered following treatment and supportive care. The DGHS bulletin stated that 48,800 people have recovered from suspected measles infections since March.

Health experts have repeatedly stressed the importance of vaccination, early treatment and public awareness campaigns to contain the spread of the disease and prevent further fatalities, particularly among children.
