The government will push for the highest possible punishment for the accused in the sensational Ramisa rape and murder case.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman shared this strong message on Sunday, just one day before the trial officially began. Speaking to the public, Asaduzzaman expressed confidence that the clear evidence collected by police will ensure the guilty parties receive the maximum penalty.

The minister made these comments whilst attending a programme for distributing financial assistance cheques as the chief guest. The event was held at the Shailkupa Upazila Parishad auditorium and was organised by the local Jhenaidah Zila Parishad to provide financial help to those in need.

During his speech, Asaduzzaman also updated the public on national politics. He mentioned that the government has invited five members of the opposition party to join a committee for changing the constitution. The government is currently waiting for their final answer before moving forward.

Moving on to local safety, the minister gave a strict warning about illegal drugs. He urged everyone in the community to stand together against drug abuse and made it clear that the government will not show any mercy to those involved in the drug trade.

Asaduzzaman also shared some positive news regarding public welfare. The government plans to give special “family cards” to 40 million households across the country to help with daily living expenses. At the same time, some areas are already handing out “farmer cards,” which will soon be available nationwide. Additionally, there are plans to provide a regular financial allowance to local religious leaders, such as mosque imams and temple priests.

The meeting was led by Jhenaidah Zila Parishad Administrator M A Majid. Several important local officials, including Deputy Commissioner Md Noman Hossain and Shailkupa Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mahfuzur Rahman, were present. Local political and police leaders, such as Abdus Salam Biswas, Humayun Babur Firoz, and Police Officer Humayun Kabir Mollah, also attended the gathering.
