Government initiatives undertaken during the Eid-ul-Azha holiday reflected public expectations and demonstrated a commitment to people-centred governance, Prime Minister’s Adviser and Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Spokesperson Mahdi Amin said on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference at the PMO, Mahdi Amin reviewed the administration’s performance during the festive period and highlighted a series of measures aimed at improving public services, ensuring accountability and maintaining stability across Bangladesh.
According to him, the government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has completed its first three months in office and remains focused on transparency, good governance and citizen welfare. He said special attention was given to several priority areas during Eid to ensure that people could celebrate the occasion without major disruptions.
Mahdi Amin said the government concentrated on 10 key sectors, including smooth travel arrangements for holidaymakers, timely payment of salaries and bonuses to workers, protection of domestic livestock markets, efficient waste management, regulation of public transport services, prevention of extortion, uninterrupted electricity supply, public safety, proper handling of rawhide and leather, and maintaining stable prices of essential commodities.
He noted that coordinated efforts among different agencies, along with an extended holiday period, helped reduce traffic congestion on highways and facilitated the movement of people travelling to their hometowns. Most workers also received their wages and festival bonuses before Eid, he added.
The PMO spokesperson said monitoring measures helped curb extortion and maintain order at cattle markets across the country. He also pointed to the swift removal of sacrificial animal waste in Dhaka and other major cities as evidence of improved civic management.
Mahdi Amin also said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman personally reviewed post-Eid waste management activities and directed authorities to take action against officials found negligent in carrying out their responsibilities.
He further claimed that electricity services remained largely stable throughout the holiday despite increased seasonal demand, while law enforcement agencies ensured overall security and public order during Eid celebrations.
Although acknowledging that longstanding institutional challenges could not be resolved within a few months, Mahdi argued that the Eid experience demonstrated the government’s determination to build a more responsive and service-oriented administration.
The briefing concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, upholding the rule of law and advancing sustainable governance reforms in the coming months.
