Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain has said the government has taken comprehensive preparations to deal with dengue, as sporadic cases of the mosquito-borne disease have already begun to appear across Bangladesh.

Speaking at a meeting held at the Secretariat on Monday, the minister said that since one or two dengue patients are being reported daily during this period, authorities are acting swiftly to avoid any escalation.

“We do not want to waste any time. All-out preparations are underway to tackle dengue,” he said.

The minister said dengue corners are being established at upazila health complexes nationwide to ensure early treatment and monitoring of patients. He also confirmed that a field hospital has already been set up at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital to provide additional treatment capacity. If necessary, more temporary field hospitals will be established in other parts of the country.

The meeting, chaired by the health minister, was attended by State Minister for Health Dr M A Muhith, senior officials of the Directorate General of Health Services, and representatives from relevant health institutions.

Sakhawat Husain said medical training programmes are being arranged in coordination with the Society of Medicine, with support from organizations such as UNICEF. Doctors and nurses across all divisions outside Dhaka will receive training on treatment protocols and response management.

He also informed that essential supplies, including testing kits, reagents and saline, are already in stock, while additional procurement is underway based on projected demand.

Regarding preventive measures, the minister said coordination with city corporations to address breeding sources of mosquitoes had begun two months earlier.

The meeting also discussed the introduction of a dengue-related mobile application and emphasised strengthening research activities to improve long-term response strategies.
