The High Court (HC) on Wednesday cleared all legal bars to holding Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections on 7 June, scrapping a writ petition that challenged the legality of the polls schedule and voter list.

The order, passed by the High Court Division bench of Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty and Justice Md Ashif Hasan, stated: “Not pressed.”

Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal argued for the state, while advocates Mohammad Hossain, Azim Uddin and Shafikul Islam moved the writ before the court. Barrister Mahin M Rahman stood for BCB.

On 18 May, six individuals, including Armanul Islam Nayon, filed the writ petition seeking withdrawal of the BCB CEO’s. On 6 May, a letter was sent to the presidents of various district sports associations (Deputy Commissioners), requesting them to nominate councillors for the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s general council in preparation for the formation of the general council and the 2026 board elections. The petitioners also sought a stay on the election schedule.

The other petitioners are Md Naim Hawlader, Md Enamul Ahsan, Md Abdullah Arko, Akib Javed and Md Rakibul Islam.
