The Bangladesh government has started fulfilling its election promises within just three months of taking office, according to Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Speaking at a public event at Ruhia High School on Wednesday, Fakhrul, who is also the BNP Secretary General, shared plans for major local projects. He said that turning Ruhia and Bhulli into full upazilas (sub-districts) shows the government's commitment to developing regional areas.

To boost education and the local economy, Fakhrul announced several big investments. The government plans to build a new university, a medical college, and an engineering college in Thakurgaon.

To create jobs and bring in more business, the minister confirmed plans to set up a new Export Processing Zone (EPZ) and reopen the district’s airport. These changes should speed up economic growth in the northern region over the coming years.

On international matters, Fakhrul praised Bangladesh’s recent election as the president of the United Nations General Assembly for the next session. He called this a great honour, which raises the country’s status around the world.

Before his speech, Fakhrul officially opened the temporary office for the newly formed Ruhia Upazila Parishad.

Showing respect across political lines, the minister thanked past leaders from different parties for their help in developing the area. The event, organised by the local BNP branch, ended with locals presenting flowers to the minister. District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin and Ruhia Upazila President Abdul Jabbar also spoke at the gathering.
