The probe committee investigating the deaths of six newborns at Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area has submitted its report to the Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain on Wednesday.
A press release confirmed the submission of the report, while noting that a separate investigation committee formed by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is expected to submit its findings on Thursday. The health minister is also scheduled to brief the media at 4 pm following the submission of the remaining report.
The incident occurred on 27 May in the early hours, when six newborns died within a short span of time in the hospital’s post-delivery ward. The sudden deaths triggered widespread concern and led to the formation of multiple inquiry committees to determine the cause and possible lapses.
Immediately after the incident, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare constituted a three-member high-level probe body to investigate the matter. At the same time, the DGHS formed another three-member committee to conduct a parallel inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
In addition, the management of Ad-Din Medical College Hospital formed an internal committee to assess whether there were any procedural shortcomings or negligence within the institution. That internal committee has already submitted its report to the ministry, officials said.
Authorities are now expected to review the findings from all committees before determining the next course of action regarding accountability and medical oversight in the case.
