The ongoing heatwave across Bangladesh is set to continue, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has said. In a bulletin issued on Thursday morning, the Met office reported that a mild to moderate heatwave is currently sweeping across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions, along with Chandpur, Noakhali and Brahmanbaria districts, and may persist.

The agency also forecast rain in parts of the country over the next 24 hours starting from 9:00 am. It said light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds and lightning flashes, are likely at a few places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places in Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions. Moderately heavy rainfall may occur in some areas across the country.

Day temperatures are expected to fall slightly in the northeastern region while remaining largely unchanged elsewhere. Night temperatures are also likely to stay steady. The Met office warned that rising moisture levels may keep discomfort conditions in place.

On Wednesday, the highest temperature was recorded at 38.5 degrees Celsius in Dinajpur in the Rangpur division. On Thursday, the lowest temperature was 23.5 degrees Celsius in Sylhet. In Dhaka, the sun is expected to set at 6:43 pm on Thursday and rise at 5:11 am the following day.
