A total of 93,67,418 sacrificial animals were slaughtered across Bangladesh during Eid-ul-Azha 2026, according to preliminary data released by the Department of Livestock Services (DLS).

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku shared the figures on Thursday, noting that the nationwide total includes cattle, buffaloes, goats, sheep, and a small number of other species.

Of the total, 48,64,158 were cattle and buffaloes, while 45,02,233 were goats and sheep. An additional 1,027 animals from other categories were also sacrificed during the festival period.

The latest figure reflects a decline of around 10.12 lakh animals compared to last year’s total of 1,03,79,202, marking an overall decrease of about 9.75 per cent.

Division-wise data shows that Dhaka recorded the highest number of sacrifices with 23,51,666 animals. This included 13,69,005 cattle and buffaloes, 9,82,107 goats and sheep, and 554 animals of other types.

Rajshahi followed closely with 23,42,869 animals, where goat and sheep sacrifices were particularly high. Chattogram ranked third with 17,34,025 sacrificial animals.

Other divisions recorded lower figures, including Rangpur with 10,50,554 animals, Khulna with 8,46,005, Barishal with 4,00,160, Mymensingh with 3,67,818, and Sylhet with 2,74,321.

Officials said Dhaka Division led in overall sacrifices as well as cattle slaughter, while Rajshahi topped in goat and sheep sacrifices.

The livestock authorities said overall supply and management of sacrificial animals remained stable during Eid, with field-level monitoring helping ensure smooth operations nationwide. They also noted that the figures are preliminary and may be slightly revised after final compilation from district-level reports.
