Health authorities have reported further deaths linked to measles and related symptoms in Bangladesh, with one child dying from confirmed measles and three others succumbing to complications in the past 24 hours till Thursday morning.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its latest update that the new fatalities have pushed the overall death toll to 605 since 15 March, marking a continued rise in measles-related deaths over the past two and a half months.

According to the DGHS, between 8am on Wednesday and 8am on Thursday, 69 new patients were diagnosed with measles infection, while 1,136 additional individuals were recorded with measles-like symptoms across the country.

The situation remains widespread, with the health authority confirming that since mid-March, a total of 9,260 people - most of them children - have been diagnosed with confirmed measles infection. During the same period, a significantly larger number of 75,708 people have reported symptoms consistent with measles.

Hospitalisation figures also highlight the scale of the outbreak. Since 15 March, 61,194 patients have required hospital admission due to measles or related symptoms. Of them, 57,043 individuals have already been discharged following recovery.

Health officials continue to monitor the situation as the outbreak shows sustained transmission, particularly among children, who remain the most affected group.

The DGHS has been updating figures daily as part of its ongoing surveillance and response efforts to control the spread of the disease and manage hospital caseloads across the country.
