A meeting on the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan was held on Thursday at the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Division office in the Bangladesh Secretariat, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the chair.

According to Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony, the meeting focused on progress and planning related to the long-discussed Teesta River development and management project.

As part of the proceedings, a documentary highlighting the current condition of the Teesta River and the Teesta Barrage was presented before the participants. The visual presentation outlined the river’s present state and infrastructure challenges linked to water flow and management.

Senior government officials attended the meeting, including Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, State Minister Forhad Hossain Azad, Prime Minister’s Adviser for Policy and Strategy Dr Zahed Ur Rahman, and Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar.

Officials discussed key aspects of the master plan’s implementation, with emphasis on coordinated planning and inter-ministerial cooperation. The meeting underscored the government’s focus on addressing long-standing issues related to the Teesta River, which plays a crucial role in agriculture, irrigation and regional water management.

Further steps regarding the project’s implementation are expected following continued review and coordination among relevant ministries and agencies.
