Following a violent altercation between opposing factions that resulted in one fatality and at least fifteen injuries, the local government implemented Section 144 in two Tangail villages.

"In Golpecha village under Gopalpur upazila and Jagatkura village under Bhuapur upazila, the restrictions went into effect at 6:00 AM on Friday and will stay in effect until further notice," authorities stated.

Kalam Talukdar, 65, who suffered serious injuries during the assault, was identified as dead. After being brought to the Bhuapur Upazila Health Complex, the physicians on duty pronounced him dead. The injured were taken to Tangail General Hospital for medical care.

Residents of the two villages participated in a violent altercation over a long-standing disagreement that started on Thursday afternoon and lasted for about four hours, according to local reports. During the conflict, both sides reportedly used locally made weapons.

Around ten homes burnt down in arson assaults that the turmoil caused. Residents said that during the event, home belongings, stored paddy, and animals were stolen.

Tension escalated further in the evening when a large group from the neighbouring Shakharia village of Hemnagar union allegedly attacked Nalin Bazaar, vandalising and looting more than 100 shops owned by residents of Jagatkura.

Locals said that the conflict stemmed from a minor dispute over unpaid dues at a shop on 22 April, which gradually intensified through a series of confrontations before turning deadly.

Bhuapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Sabbir Rahman said, “five police personnel were injured while they tried to bring the situation under control. Additional law enforcement members have been deployed in the area.”

Bhuapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahbub Hasan said, “Section 144 was imposed to prevent further deterioration of law and order after the dispute escalated into widespread violence, vandalism and loss of life.”
