The 13th Jatiya Sangsad is set to begin its first budget session on Sunday, marking a key parliamentary event following the formation of the BNP-led government after the national election held on 12 February 2026.
According to parliamentary sources, the session - also the second sitting of the 13th parliament - will start at 3pm.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury is expected to place the proposed national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year on 11 June, setting the stage for debate on government spending, revenue plans and economic priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.
The President of Bangladesh Mohammed Shahabuddin had summoned the budget session on 7 May. The upcoming session follows the conclusion of the first parliamentary session, which ended on 30 April.
During the first session, Parliament conducted its legislative business over 25 working days, passing a total of 94 bills, according to official records. Lawmakers are now expected to focus on budget discussions, policy directions and financial allocations for various sectors during the upcoming sitting.
The budget session is widely seen as an important test for the newly formed government, as it will outline its fiscal strategy and development priorities for the 2026-27 financial year.
Parliamentary officials indicated that the session will include general discussions on the budget as well as legislative work and committee activities, in line with standard parliamentary procedure.
