People travelling late in Dhaka will soon find it easier to get home. Starting this Sunday, the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) is adding 20 extra minutes to the night service on the MRT Line-6.

DMTCL has taken the step as the number of people using the metro is increasing day by day. The DMTCL has decided to add one more late-night trip in both directions to cope with the rising demand, said Mohammad Ahsan Ullah Sharifi, spokesperson of the metro rail.

The last train from Uttara North to Motijheel will now leave at 9:50 pm instead of the old time of 9:30 pm under the new schedule. The last train from Motijheel to Uttara North will leave at 10:30 pm, 20 minutes later than the previous schedule of 10:10 pm.

This update is the latest step in growing Bangladesh’s first metro rail system. The service first opened on 28 December 2022, running only a short distance between Uttara North and Agargaon. The route was fully opened all the way to Motijheel a year later, on 31 December 2023.

Construction is still ongoing at the final stop, Kamalapur station. Once that station is finished, the entire MRT Line-6 project will be complete.
