Bangladesh and Russia are set to engage in high-level discussions on bilateral relations and broader international issues during an official meeting scheduled in Moscow on 8 June, according to Russian diplomatic sources.
Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman will travel to Russia for a three-day official visit from 7 to 9 June 9, at the invitation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The central focus of the visit will be the formal talks between the two foreign ministers, which are expected to take place on 8 June.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, through its spokesperson Maria Zakharova, confirmed the visit and outlined that discussions will cover a wide range of bilateral cooperation areas as well as global and multilateral concerns. However, Dhaka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet issued an official statement regarding the visit.
A significant portion of the agenda is expected to focus on cooperation within the United Nations framework, particularly in light of Khalilur Rahman’s recent election as President of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly, according to the Russian side.
During the visit, the Bangladeshi foreign minister is also scheduled to meet senior officials from several key Russian institutions, including the Federation Council and the state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom, along with representatives of other organisations.
The engagements are expected to further strengthen diplomatic dialogue between Dhaka and Moscow, while also expanding cooperation in multilateral platforms and strategic sectors.
