The father of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter, who was raped and murdered in Dhaka’s Pallabi area last month, has welcomed the court’s verdict in the case and called for the swift execution of the sentence handed down to the convicted individuals.
Speaking to journalists after the judgment was delivered on Sunday, Abdul Hannan Mollah expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the trial, saying the verdict met the expectations of his family and represented a significant step toward justice for his daughter.
Earlier in the day, the Dhaka Metropolitan Children’s Violence Suppression Tribunal sentenced Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akter to death for their roles in the crime. The court also imposed financial penalties, fining Sohel Rana Tk5 lakh and Swapna Akter Tk2 lakh.
Reacting to the judgment, Abdul Hannan said the family had received the punishment they had hoped for and now wanted the legal process to move forward without delay. He urged the authorities to ensure the verdict is implemented as quickly as possible.
The grieving father also thanked the judge, members of the law enforcement agencies, journalists, and others who supported the family throughout the investigation and trial proceedings. He acknowledged their role in helping ensure that the case was resolved within a relatively short period.
Describing the ruling as a fulfilment of his family’s hopes, Abdul Hannan said he was completely satisfied with the verdict. He further noted that the judgment had been delivered within the timeframe promised by the government, expressing appreciation for what he described as a timely conclusion to the case.
The case drew significant public attention and sparked widespread demands for justice following the tragic death of the young girl. The tribunal’s ruling marks a major development in one of the most closely followed criminal cases in recent months.
