Bangladesh has recorded seven additional deaths linked to measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours till 8am on Sunday, bringing the total number of suspected measles-related fatalities to 620, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Health authorities said the latest deaths have been classified as suspected measles cases, while the number of confirmed deaths from the disease remains unchanged at 91.
During the same reporting period, 1,221 new suspected measles cases were identified across the country, pushing the total number of suspected infections to 79,012. The DGHS also confirmed 66 new laboratory-confirmed cases, taking the total number of confirmed infections to 9,686.
According to official data, 64,263 suspected measles patients have been hospitalised since 15 March. Of them, 60,084 patients have recovered so far, indicating a steady recovery rate despite the continuing spread of the disease.
Health officials continue to monitor the situation as both suspected and confirmed cases remain high, with hospitals across the country treating a large number of patients presenting measles-like symptoms.
The DGHS has not yet provided detailed explanations for the rise in suspected deaths, but ongoing surveillance and reporting efforts are being maintained to track the outbreak and manage hospital admissions.
Medical experts have previously stressed the importance of vaccination coverage, early diagnosis, and timely treatment to control the spread of measles, particularly among children who are most vulnerable to complications.
Authorities are expected to issue updated guidance as the situation develops.
