Eight more children die of measles, symptoms in 24 hours

Eight more children have died within the past 24 hours up to Monday morning in Bangladesh, including seven who showed measles-related symptoms and one confirmed measles case, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the same 24-hour period, the country recorded 1,092 new suspected measles cases along with 93 confirmed infections, reflecting a continued rise in both suspected and laboratory-confirmed cases of the disease.

DGHS data show that since 15 March, Bangladesh has registered a total of 9,779 confirmed measles cases, while suspected cases have reached 80,104 nationwide. The outbreak has placed significant pressure on healthcare facilities as patients continue to seek treatment across the country.

The health authority further reported that 92 people have died from confirmed measles cases since the beginning of the reporting period. In addition, 536 deaths have been recorded among suspected cases, highlighting the severity of the ongoing outbreak.

Despite the rising numbers, recovery rates remain significant. According to DGHS, a total of 61,278 patients have recovered so far from measles or related complications during this period.

Health officials continue to monitor the situation closely as new cases emerge daily, with medical teams working to manage infections and prevent further spread of the disease across affected regions.
