The government has expressed dissatisfaction with the explanation submitted by Ad-din Medical College Hospital regarding the deaths of six newborns, with Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain indicating that further action may follow after consultations at the highest levels.

Speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday, the health minister said the response provided by the hospital failed to adequately clarify the circumstances surrounding the deaths. According to him, the five-page written explanation submitted in response to a show-cause notice lacked sufficient detail and did not satisfactorily address the concerns raised by the authorities.

“The explanation is not clear, and we are not satisfied with it,” the minister said, adding that the government is treating the matter with utmost seriousness.

He emphasised that no leniency would be shown in dealing with the incident and noted that the authorities are currently reviewing the matter. Further decisions are expected after discussions within the government, he added.

The development follows a show-cause notice issued by the Ministry of Health on 4 June after the deaths of six newborns at Ad-din Hospital drew widespread attention. The notice sought an explanation from the hospital regarding the circumstances surrounding the fatalities and the measures taken by the institution.

In response, the hospital authorities submitted a written reply outlining their position. However, according to the health minister, the explanation did not provide satisfactory answers to the key questions raised by the government.

Officials have not yet disclosed what specific actions may be taken next. However, the minister's remarks suggest that the government is considering further measures as it continues to review the incident and the hospital's response.

The authorities are expected to announce their next course of action after completing consultations and evaluating the findings related to the case.
