Bangladesh’s total measles-related death toll has reached 639, following the deaths of eight children with measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours till 8am on Wednesday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Health authorities said the latest eight deaths have been classified as suspected measles fatalities. With this update, suspected measles deaths have risen to 547, while confirmed measles deaths remain unchanged at 92.
The DGHS also reported 945 new suspected measles cases during the same 24-hour period, bringing the total number of suspected cases nationwide to 82,029.
In addition, 94 new laboratory-confirmed measles cases were recorded, taking the total number of confirmed infections to 9,927 since the outbreak began.
Since 15 March, a total of 66,999 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country. Of them, 63,145 patients have recovered, according to official data.
Health officials continue to monitor the situation as new suspected cases are reported daily, with surveillance and treatment efforts ongoing across hospitals and health facilities nationwide.
