Bangladesh’s Attorney General, Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal, has formally requested an expedited High Court hearing for the death references and appeals concerning the tragic rape and murder of two eight-year-old girls.
The harrowing cases involve young Achia from Magura and Ramisa from the Pallabi area of Dhaka. On Sunday, the Attorney General presented his submission to a special High Court bench, which Justice Bhishmadev Chakraborty and Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja presided over.
Demonstrating a firm stance on the matter, Barrister Kazal assured the justices that the state would not seek any adjournments during the hearings of death references or appeals related to severe offences against women and children pending before this specific bench. The pledge underscores a broader legal effort to prevent unnecessary delays in delivering justice for victims of severe abuse.
In a related development later that day, a separate High Court bench, comprising Justice Mohammad Ali and Justice Md Saiful Islam, accepted a jail appeal lodged on behalf of the convicted individuals by prison authorities. This appeal pertains to Sohel Rana and Swapna Akhter, both of whom have been sentenced to death for their direct involvement in the rape and murder of Ramisa.
During these proceedings, Barrister Kazal drew the court’s attention to the urgent need for compiling the official paper book—a comprehensive collection of all case documents. This administrative step is vital to ensure the rapid progression of the death reference and subsequent appeals in the Pallabi case.
In response to the state’s prompt, the court confirmed that a copy of the directive had already been forwarded to the relevant department, ensuring the legal process advances without further bureaucratic hesitation.
