Prime Minister’s Adviser on Policy and Strategy Affairs Dr Zahed Ur Rahman returned to Bangladesh on Monday after being stopped at Delhi airport by Indian immigration authorities on Sunday evening following a reported security flagging during routine checks.

According to sources close to Dr Zahed, the adviser was briefly held up at the airport and subjected to what they described as “undue harassment” during the immigration screening process. However, there has been no official statement from either Dhaka or New Delhi regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The delay occurred after Indian immigration authorities reportedly flagged his name during a security-related verification process. Following the checks, he was eventually allowed to travel onward and returned home safely.

Officials familiar with the matter said Dr Zahed was not carrying a diplomatic passport at the time of travel. Instead, he was travelling on a regular Bangladeshi green passport, accompanied by a valid SAARC visa arrangement.

While details of the security flagging have not been disclosed, the incident has drawn attention due to his official status as an adviser to the prime minister, although he was travelling in a personal capacity.

No clarification has yet been issued by Indian authorities regarding why the security alert was triggered or how long the screening process lasted. Similarly, Bangladeshi authorities have not released an official comment on the matter.

The episode concludes with Dr Zahed’s return to Dhaka, while questions remain over the cause of the airport stoppage and the nature of the security flagging that led to the delay.
