A writ petition has been filed before the High Court on Monday challenging the government’s decision to cancel the licence of Ad-din Medical College Hospital located in Moghbazar, Dhaka.

The petition questions the legality and validity of the authorities’ move to revoke the hospital’s operating licence, arguing that the decision requires judicial review. According to court sources, the writ was submitted in the relevant branch of the High Court by Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Yunus Ali Akand.

In the petition, several government bodies and officials have been made respondents, including the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and other concerned regulatory authorities responsible for overseeing private healthcare institutions.

The legal challenge comes shortly after the government reportedly cancelled the licence of the hospital, a move that has drawn attention within the healthcare and legal communities. The petition seeks clarification on whether proper procedures and due process were followed before the cancellation order was issued.

Although details of the government’s grounds for cancelling the licence were not elaborated in the petition summary, the case is expected to bring scrutiny to regulatory actions involving private medical institutions and their compliance with national healthcare laws.

With the filing of the writ, the High Court may now examine whether the decision to cancel the licence adhered to legal standards and administrative fairness.

No immediate statement has been issued by the Ministry of Health or other named respondents regarding the filing of the petition. The matter is now likely to proceed through standard judicial channels, where initial hearings may determine whether the cancellation order will remain in effect or be stayed pending further review.
