A high-level government meeting focused on reducing traffic congestion and modernising Bangladesh’s traffic management system was held on Monday, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman presiding over the session.

This was the third meeting dedicated to reviewing strategies aimed at easing traffic pressure and improving overall transport management in urban areas. The discussions formed part of an ongoing effort to introduce more efficient, technology-driven and coordinated traffic control measures.

The meeting took place at the Public Administration Conference Room of the Cabinet Division at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka in the morning, according to Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony.

Jahidul Islam Rony said the session reviewed existing challenges in traffic regulation, including road congestion, enforcement gaps, and coordination issues among relevant agencies. Emphasis was placed on developing a modernised traffic management framework that could improve mobility and reduce commuter suffering in major cities.

Participants discussed possible reforms involving better planning, improved monitoring systems, and enhanced operational coordination between different transport and law enforcement authorities. The meeting also highlighted the importance of long-term solutions to address rapid urbanisation and increasing pressure on road infrastructure.

As part of the ongoing initiative, the government is expected to continue holding follow-up meetings to assess progress and refine proposed measures aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing congestion.

The Prime Minister’s Office said further details and decisions from the meeting would be communicated through official channels in due course.
