FM orders to keep Family Card distribution transparent, influence-free

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has directed the concerned officials to ensure that the implementation of the Family Card programme remains free from any political or partisan influence, with the aim of guaranteeing transparency and fairness in beneficiary selection.

The directive came at the fourth meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Family Card Distribution held on Monday at the conference room of the Ministry of Finance at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

The meeting reviewed and approved the administrative expenditure for the implementation of the Family Card programme. It also finalised the Family Card Piloting Implementation (Amended) Guidelines 2026 and reviewed the draft Family Card Implementation Policy, 2026 and gave approval in principle, said a Finance Ministry press release.

Speaking at the meeting, the Finance Minister highlighted the importance of implementing the programme transparently, ensuring that deserving beneficiaries receive support without any political consideration.

Among others, Social Welfare Minister Prof. Dr AZM. Zahid Hossain, MP; State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin, MP; and State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, MP, attended the meeting.

Social Welfare Secretary Dr Mohammad Abu Yousuf and senior officials from different ministries and agencies concerned were also present.

The committee discussed various operational and policy aspects of the programme and underscored the need for effective coordination among the relevant ministries and agencies to ensure smooth implementation of the Family Card scheme across the country.
