The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken steps to initiate the repatriation of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed from Dubai, following legal and investigative developments in ongoing corruption-related cases.
Officials said the ACC has prepared the necessary documentation and finalised a formal request letter, which has already been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
ACC Deputy Director Md Hafizul Islam, who is directly involved in the investigation, confirmed the matter, stating that the request has been completed and forwarded to the relevant ministry.
According to investigation sources, the letter includes detailed evidence from multiple cases filed against the former police chief. These allegations involve corruption, illegal accumulation of wealth, money laundering, and passport forgery. The Ministry of Home Affairs is expected to forward the request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which will then transmit it to the United Arab Emirates authorities through diplomatic channels.
ACC sources also confirmed that representatives from the National Central Bureau (NCB) in Dhaka visited the ACC headquarters on the same day to facilitate the legal and diplomatic procedures required for bringing Benazir Ahmed back. During the visit, they held discussions with ACC officials on ongoing investigations, arrest warrants, court directives, and related documentation.
Authorities said that supporting materials, including evidence of alleged corruption and illicit wealth accumulation as well as court orders and other legal papers, have been handed over to the NCB to strengthen the extradition process.
Officials added that coordination between law enforcement and diplomatic channels is ongoing as part of efforts to ensure the next legal steps are completed in accordance with international procedures.
