PM heads to Moulvibazar for Family Card distribution

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left Dhaka on Wednesday morning for a daylong visit to Moulvibazar, where he is scheduled to participate in Family Card distribution programmes and attend a public gathering.

According to Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman, the premier departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:38am for Sylhet Osmani International Airport. He had arrived at the airport shortly before departure from his residence in Gulshan.

During the visit, the Prime Minister is expected to take part in a series of welfare and political engagements before returning to the capital later in the evening.

As per the official itinerary, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to land at Sylhet Osmani International Airport at around 10:15am and then travel to Sreemangal in Moulvibazar District.

His first programme will be held at the historic Victoria High School ground in Sreemangal at 1pm, where Family Cards will be distributed among 155 families from Ward No-1 of Mirzapur Union. The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to support low-income and vulnerable households.

Later in the afternoon, the Prime Minister will attend another Family Card distribution programme at the Moulvibazar Government High School ground. At the event, 152 families from Ward No-7 of Tengra Union in Rajnagar Upazila will receive the cards.

Following the welfare programmes, Tarique Rahman will travel to DuSai Resort, where he will spend some time before joining a political meeting with local and party leaders.

After concluding the meeting, the Prime Minister is expected to return to Sylhet and fly back to Dhaka from Osmani International Airport in the evening.

Tarique Rahman returned to Bangladesh on 25 December last year after spending more than 15 years in London. He had previously visited Moulvibazar during the election campaign ahead of the 12 February national election.

The visit marks his first official trip to the district as Prime Minister since the BNP secured a landslide victory and formed the government following the general election.
