Tarique Rahman has called on the Special Security Force (SSF) to balance the protection of the head of government with maintaining close public contact, saying trust and affection from citizens remain his strongest support.

Speaking at a programme marking the 40th founding anniversary of the SSF at Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon, he said security arrangements should not create distance between elected leaders and the public they serve.

“As head of government, my greatest reliance is on the trust and love of the people,” he said. “Therefore, I urge the SSF, as a sophisticated and professional force, to ensure that the security cordon does not push the Prime Minister away from the people.”

He noted that modern security challenges have become more complex due to shifting socio-economic, political and geopolitical conditions, alongside rapid technological change. In response, he stressed the need for continuous training, professional excellence and modern security strategies.

Tarique Rahman said the SSF often faces the difficult task of protecting the Prime Minister at large public gatherings and state events while also maintaining public convenience and normal civic life. He praised the force for carrying out its duties effectively under such pressures and reiterated the importance of balancing security with democratic accessibility.

He also urged SSF personnel to remain respectful in their dealings with ordinary citizens while on duty. “While giving the highest priority to the security of important personalities, you must remain vigilant so that members of the public do not become victims of misconduct,” he said.

Highlighting the standards expected of the elite security unit, the Prime Minister stressed professionalism, discipline, integrity, loyalty and strict adherence to the chain of command. He also called for stronger coordination among security agencies, intelligence services and government institutions to reinforce national security.

Tarique Rahman expressed hope that SSF members would continue to serve with patriotism, professionalism and respect for democratic norms.
