The government has announced plans to establish dedicated "Math Labs" in government primary schools across Bangladesh in phases as part of a broader effort to strengthen mathematics education and prepare students for a technology-driven future.
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj revealed the initiative while speaking at an exchange meeting with students, teachers and guardians after visiting Glenrich International School at Satarkul in Dhaka’s Badda on Thursday.
According to the state minister, the proposed Math Labs will help improve students' mathematical abilities, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills from an early age. He said the initiative is designed to create a more engaging and modern learning environment in primary schools and equip children with the skills needed to succeed in an increasingly knowledge-based economy.
"The world is rapidly advancing towards technology-oriented development, and strong foundations in mathematics and science are essential for future generations," Bobby Hajjaj said. He stressed that strengthening these skills at the primary level would enable students to adapt to future educational and professional challenges.
The state minister said the initiative aligns with the current government's election commitments and the education vision of Prime Minister Tareq Rahman. He noted that the government aims to bring a fundamental transformation to the primary education sector through innovative and skill-based learning methods.
Bobby Hajjaj said the ultimate goal is to ensure that every child receives equal opportunities to develop as future scientists, engineers, researchers and technology innovators. He described the establishment of Math Labs as a significant step towards achieving that objective.
He further noted that the programme would contribute to making primary education more modern, internationally competitive and technology-friendly, while also supporting the country's ambition of becoming a smart, knowledge-based nation.
Senior officials of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, school authorities, students and guardians attended the event.
