The British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Sarah Cooke, has expressed interest in potential investment in the country’s aviation sector, particularly following the expected launch of the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

According to the Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Hossain Shadhin, the High Commissioner conveyed the interest during a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

He said, “the British envoy noted that the development of the new airport terminal could create fresh opportunities for international investment in Bangladesh’s aviation infrastructure.”

During the meeting, the High Commissioner also said that she hoped relations between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom would continue to strengthen under the current government.

The British side also proposed expanding cooperation in technical education and vocational training, with the aim of improving skills development in Bangladesh’s workforce.

Discussions further covered ways to increase bilateral trade and encourage greater British investment in Bangladesh, with officials saying such engagement could help generate new employment opportunities in the country.

Senior officials were present at the meeting, including Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir.

The talks come at a time when Bangladesh is seeking to expand its aviation capacity and attract foreign investment into major infrastructure and skills development projects, with the third terminal of the capital’s main international airport expected to play a key role in future growth.
