Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said that it has prevented an alleged attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to move a group of 20 people into Bangladesh through a border point in Chapainawabganj district.
The incident took place on Saturday at the Chouka border in Shibganj upazila, according to BGB officials.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, commanding officer of BGB’s Mahananda 59 Battalion, said, “BSF personnel sought to send the group across the frontier into Bangladesh through the border area.”
He said again, “members of the Chouka Border Outpost (BOP) responded to the situation and stopped the group from entering Bangladeshi territory.”
According to the BGB official, the 20 individuals are currently positioned inside Indian territory near the zero-line separating the two countries.
No further details were immediately available about the identities of the individuals or the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempt.
Authorities have not reported any injuries or confrontations during the incident.
The development comes amid continued vigilance by border forces on both sides of the Bangladesh-India frontier, where issues related to cross-border movement remain a sensitive matter.
