A fire broke out at an ‘oil processing facility’ in Gazipur on Saturday afternoon after a boiler explosion, prompting an emergency response from the local fire service.

The incident occurred at Auto Green Oil Company in the College Gate (Maijgaon) area of Ward No. 41 under Pubail Police Station at around 2:10pm, according to police officials.

Atikur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Pubail Police Station, said, “authorities received reports of a boiler explosion shortly before the fire spread through parts of the factory premises.”

“Following the alert, three units from the Fire Service and Civil Defence were dispatched to the site and immediately began efforts to control the flames,” said Md Sabuj Mia, duty officer at the Tongi Fire Service station.

“Fire Service officer Shahin Alam was overseeing operations at the scene as firefighters continued working to bring the blaze under control,” he added.

Officials added, “there had been no reports of deaths or injuries as of Saturday afternoon.” However, the full extent of the damage remained unclear while firefighting efforts were ongoing.”

Factory authority said that investigators would assess the cause of the incident and determine the scale of property losses once the fire had been completely extinguished.

The latest updates indicated that emergency crews were still engaged in containment operations at the factory.
