Seven deaths, 887 measles cases reported in 24 hours

Seven children have died from suspected measles in the past 24 hours across Bangladesh, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same period, 887 new measles cases were reported nationwide, while 80 confirmed children were admitted to hospitals, a DGHS press release said on Saturday. It added that 807 of the new cases were classified as suspected infections.

The DGHS said suspected cases have now risen to 91,789 since 15 March. A total of 75,902 suspected measles patients have been admitted to hospitals over the same period, while 71,970 have recovered and been discharged after treatment.

The agency also confirmed that no deaths from confirmed measles were recorded in the past 24 hours. However, it said confirmed measles-related deaths since 15 March now stand at 93.

Overall, the DGHS reported that 584 children have died from suspected measles nationwide since 15 March, highlighting the continued scale of the outbreak.
