Three more people have died from suspected measles in the last 24 hours, as the country faces a growing health crisis. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) shared these updates in a press release on Sunday, showing that thousands of people have fallen ill since mid-March.
In just one day, officials reported 1,063 new cases. Doctors officially confirmed 62 of these as measles, while the other 1,001 are suspected cases. While there were no new deaths from confirmed measles on this day, the three deaths from suspected cases show how serious the illness has become.
The numbers over the past few months reveal a heavy burden on the healthcare system. From March 15 to June 21, the country recorded 11,011 confirmed measles cases and 92,790 suspected ones. Because so many people are getting sick, hospitals have had to take in 76,859 patients during this time.
The total loss of life since the outbreak started is deeply concerning. Since mid-March, 93 people have died from confirmed measles. On top of that, 587 people have died after showing signs of the illness.
However, despite the fast spread of the disease and the tragic deaths, there is some hopeful news. Many people are getting better after receiving medical care. So far, 72,845 patients have fully recovered and been sent home from the hospital.
Health officials are keeping a close watch on the situation and are working hard to treat the sick and stop the disease from spreading further.
