Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended a special luncheon hosted by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Monday, marking a warm and collaborative end to his official diplomatic engagements in the country.
The event took place at the official residence of Anwar Ibrahim in the administrative capital, Putrajaya, during the early afternoon. Tarique Rahman and his wife, Zubaida Rahman, attended the gathering, which celebrated the strong and growing friendship between the two nations.
Following the meal, the two leaders and their spouses enjoyed a special cultural showcase featuring performances by local Malaysian artists. In a thoughtful display of international friendship, local school students performed a dance to the widely recognised Bengali patriotic song, ‘Prothom Bangladesh Amar, Shesh Bangladesh’.
As Tarique Rahman and Zubaida Rahman concluded their visit and left the building, they were warmly greeted by a group of Malaysian children waving the national flags of both Bangladesh and Malaysia. The visiting prime minister and his wife took the time to stop and speak directly with the children before leaving the grounds.
Anwar Ibrahim and his wife personally escorted their guests to the main gates of the residence to bid them a formal farewell. Following the departure, Tarique Rahman and Zubaida Rahman travelled by motorcade to the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
The luncheon served as the final major event of a successful two-day official visit, which began when Tarique Rahman arrived in Malaysia on Sunday at the direct invitation of Anwar Ibrahim. Throughout the trip, the two leaders successfully negotiated and signed several key agreements that focused on trade, security, and the labour market.
