Kazakhstan Prime Minister Oljas Bektenov held talks with Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum annual conference, where the two leaders agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation and establish permanent diplomatic missions in each other's capitals.

The meeting took place at around 10:15am local time, according to Bangladesh's Press Wing.

During the discussions, Tarique Rahman stressed the importance of strengthening relations between Bangladesh and Kazakhstan for the benefit of the people of both countries. To advance that goal, the two prime ministers agreed to establish permanent diplomatic missions in Dhaka and Astana.

The leaders also emphasised the need for regular meetings to increase engagement among political leaders, business communities and people from both countries.

Oljas Bektenov welcomed the prospect of expanding trade and investment ties and expressed support for greater economic cooperation between the two nations.

The talks covered a range of potential areas for collaboration, including the recruitment of skilled Bangladeshi workers in Kazakhstan, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, technology, agribusiness and food processing.

The Kazakh prime minister also sought Bangladesh's backing for Kazakhstan's proposal to establish a specialised United Nations entity focused on water diplomacy.

Tarique Rahman said Bangladesh fully supports the proposal.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir and Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon were present at the meeting.
