Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid on Wednesday said the government is conducting research to identify the types of fish in high demand in the global markets and those with greater export potentials as well.

“Bangladesh has achieved self-sufficiency in fish production and currently has some surplus output. Initiatives have been taken to expand fish exports through the introduction of modern technologies and safe production systems in aquaculture,” the minister told a function here.

Noting that Bangladesh has achieved self-sufficiency in fish production and currently has some surplus output, Amin Ur Rashid said, "Initiatives have been taken to expand fish exports through the introduction of modern technologies and safe production systems in aquaculture.”

He also said, "Ensuring safe and quality feed as well as production standards are essential to compete in the international markets.”

Replying to a question from journalists, Amin Ur Rashid mentioned, "The demand of fish farmers in the Mymensingh region for electricity at subsidised agricultural rates is reasonable.”

“He would discuss the matter with the Ministry of Power,” the minister added.

The minister further added that the demand for safe food is becoming increasingly important worldwide. Therefore, the government is attaching the highest priority to the production of safe food.
