The Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, has been granted the equivalent status of a Union Cabinet Minister for ceremonial purposes, giving him a higher position in India’s official Table of Precedence.
The status was conferred as a personal measure, according to an office memorandum issued by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs on 24 June. The memorandum stated that the arrangement applies only to ceremonial functions.
The development comes shortly after the newly appointed high commissioner presented his credentials to President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban.
Trivedi is scheduled to visit the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) at Jamuna Future Park at 2pm on Thursday to inspect visa operations.
Following the inspection, the high commissioner is expected to hold a brief interaction with the media.
