Bangladesh and China have taken another step towards strengthening their bilateral partnership after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Chinese Premier Li Qiang held high-level talks in Beijing on Thursday.
The meeting took place at the Great Hall of the People and lasted for around 45 minutes, beginning at 5:00pm local time.
Discussions centred on a range of issues, including trade, investment, infrastructure development and broader cooperation between the two countries.
Following the talks, Bangladesh and China signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), reflecting efforts by both sides to expand collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman led the Bangladeshi delegation, which included senior ministers, advisers and government officials. The Chinese delegation was headed by Premier Li Qiang.
Among those accompanying the Prime Minister were Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon, Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, State Minister for Power and Energy Aninda Islam Amit, Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir, Economic and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Education Adviser Mahdi Amin and Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam.
Officials said, "The leaders reviewed the current state of Bangladesh-China relations and explored opportunities to deepen economic cooperation.”
Trade expansion, investment flows and infrastructure development featured prominently in the discussions.
After the bilateral meeting, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and members of the Bangladesh delegation attended a state banquet hosted by Premier Li Qiang at the Great Hall of the People.
Earlier in the day, the Bangladeshi leader received a ceremonial welcome upon his arrival at the venue. A red carpet was laid out as Premier Li greeted him before the two leaders proceeded to the formal talks.
To mark the visit, the Great Hall of the People and surrounding areas near Tiananmen Square were decorated with the national flags of Bangladesh and China, highlighting the significance both governments attached to the occasion.
The visit comes as Dhaka and Beijing continue to strengthen economic and strategic ties, with both countries seeking greater cooperation in trade, investment and development initiatives.
