Prime Minister Tarique Rahman departed Beijing on Friday afternoon, bringing his official visit to China to a close after a series of high-level meetings and engagements aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries.
According to the prime minister's additional press secretary, Atikur Rahman Ruman, a China Southern Airlines flight carrying the prime minister, his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman, and members of the official delegation left Beijing Daxing International Airport at 5:15pm local time.
The final day of the visit began with a meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Before that, the Bangladeshi leader held discussions with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress, at the same venue.
Earlier on Friday morning, the prime minister paid tribute to China’s revolutionary heroes at Tiananmen Square.
He laid a red-and-green wreath at the Monument to the People’s Heroes during a formal ceremony attended by a guard of honour from the Chinese Armed Forces.
The national anthems of Bangladesh and China were played as the bugle sounded the last post. After placing the wreath, the prime minister observed a moment of silence in honour of those commemorated by the monument.
Later, Tarique Rahman visited the Museum of the Communist Party of China, where he viewed permanent exhibitions documenting the party’s history. Accompanied by Dr Zubaida Rahman and members of his delegation, he also experienced an immersive audio-visual presentation.
At the conclusion of the visit, the prime minister signed the visitors' book.
