A Dhaka court on Sunday set 15 July for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit a report on its further investigation into the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam fixed the date after the investigation agency failed to submit the report as scheduled.
The court ordered the CID to conduct a fresh investigation on 15 January 2026 after the complainant challenged the Detective Branch (DB) charge sheet by filing a naraji petition, expressing dissatisfaction with the investigation and seeking a further probe.
The DB submitted its charge sheet on 6 January, naming 17 people as accused, including alleged shooter Foysal Karim Masud and his parents, Humayun Kabir and Hashi Begum. The charge sheet was filed by DB Inspector Foysal Ahmed.
According to the case statement, Foysal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain opened fire on Sharif Osman Hadi while he was travelling in a battery-run auto-rickshaw on 12 December 2025 before fleeing the scene.
Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber filed the case with Paltan Model Police Station on 14 December.
The case was initially filed as attempted murder. However, after Hadi died on 18 December, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad ordered the inclusion of Section 302 of the Penal Code, relating to murder, on 20 December.
