PM calls for modern, self-reliant SPARRSO

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday directed the authorities to transform the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organisation (SPARRSO) into a modern, future-ready and self-reliant institution capable of making a stronger contribution to national security and development.

He issued the directive during a surprise visit to the organisation's headquarters in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Agargaon, where he arrived at about 9:15 am, according to the prime minister's deputy press secretary, Jahidul Islam Rony.

During the visit, the prime minister toured each department of SPARRSO and exchanged views with its officials and employees.

SPARRSO Chairman Md Rashedul Islam briefed him on the organisation's overall activities, while officials from different departments presented their research, innovations and ongoing projects.

Prime Minister's Defence Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam, Defence Secretary Md Ashraf Uddin, Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon, Private Secretary-2 Md Mehedul Islam, Deputy Press Secretary-1 Jahidul Islam Rony, and senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and SPARRSO accompanied the prime minister during the visit.

SPARRSO is Bangladesh's state agency responsible for research, development and the application of space science, satellite technology and remote sensing.
