Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad has urged Members of Parliament to be prepared for their scheduled speeches and strictly observe their allotted speaking time as the House enters the final stage of debate on the proposed 2026–27 national budget.
During Sunday's sitting, the Speaker expressed concern that several listed lawmakers were absent when their names were called. He asked Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni to ensure MPs received advance notice before their turn to speak.
“There is a list, yet when members are called, they are not present. Please give them an early warning so they remain prepared,” he said.
The speaker also appealed to members to conclude their speeches within the allocated time.
“I humbly request all speakers to finish within the stipulated time. Please keep an eye on the clock,” Hafiz Uddin said. He advised newly elected MPs to begin concluding their remarks when only one minute remained, using the final moments to summarise their arguments or raise issues affecting their constituencies if necessary.
Responding to the Speaker, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni told the House that all budget speeches had to be completed on Sunday, as members who failed to speak would not have another opportunity.
He said Monday morning's sitting would feature speeches by the leader of the House, the leader of the opposition and the finance minister. The Finance Bill is scheduled to be passed during the afternoon sitting.
The chief whip also reminded lawmakers that the appropriation bill must be passed before Maghrib on 30 June to meet constitutional requirements and allow sufficient time for the president to give assent before midnight.
“There is no scope for extending the schedule. Everyone must finish their speeches today,” he said, urging MPs to stay within their allotted time so Parliament could complete its business as planned.
