Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged students to prepare themselves to help build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh, describing the country's young people as its future leaders.
He made the remarks on Sunday while hosting a luncheon for students, teachers and visitors from several educational institutions who had attended the parliamentary session, according to the prime minister's deputy press secretary, Jahidul Islam Rony.
The guests included 29 law students from the Canadian University of Bangladesh, 21 underprivileged students and teachers participating through Surabhi, a partner organisation of the Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE), and 16 students and teachers from the Tejgaon College Debating Society. The luncheon was held at the VIP cafeteria of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
During the event, the prime minister interacted with the students, asked about their studies and discussed a range of issues with them. He encouraged them to pursue academic excellence while also taking part in sports and developing themselves into capable, skilled and responsible citizens.
Tarique Rahman said the new generation would play a leading role in shaping Bangladesh's future and called on students to prepare themselves for that responsibility.
The students and teachers thanked the prime minister for giving them the opportunity to attend the luncheon and engage with him.
As part of their visit to the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, the group learned about the activities of the Parliament Secretariat, toured the Parliament Library, took part in a photo session at the North Plaza and observed parliamentary proceedings from the visitors' gallery.
