Bangladesh Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad is expected to travel to Tehran to attend the state funeral of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, according to a diplomatic source.
The speaker is likely to arrive in the Iranian capital on July 3 at the invitation of Iranian speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf.
In his invitation letter, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf wrote: “I cordially invite you to join us so that we may host you in this historic and magnificent ceremony.”
According to Iranian state media, the funeral ceremonies will begin in Tehran on July 4. The programme will continue with commemorative events in the holy city of Qom before concluding with Ali Khamenei's burial in his hometown of Mashhad on July 9.
The funeral is expected to draw senior officials and dignitaries from several countries, with Iran extending invitations to foreign leaders and parliamentary representatives to attend the state ceremonies.
