The Bangladesh government is working on a new plan to change how visas are issued. During a meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced that a special team has been formed to update the country’s visa rules, which have not seen major changes since 2006.
The new committee, led by the Finance Minister, is tasked with finding ways to make travelling in and out of Bangladesh simpler and more organised for people from other countries.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani spoke to reporters after the meeting. He explained that the goal of this “Visa Policy 2026” is to help the country grow. By making it easier for foreign experts, business owners, and tourists to visit, the government hopes to bring more investment into Bangladesh and improve the local tourism and hospitality industries. The plan also focuses on helping local businesses gain access to new technology and specialised knowledge from abroad.
The government noted that these changes will not come at the cost of safety. The new rules aim to keep the country secure while also following standard international practices for diplomacy and travel.
According to Nasimul Ghani, the new system will be based on the idea of “reciprocity”—meaning Bangladesh will manage travel rules in a way that matches how other countries treat Bangladeshi travelers. The overall aim is to create a modern and efficient system that is helpful to visitors while keeping national interests in mind.
The Ministry of Home Affairs will assist the committee as it works to draft these new regulations. For now, the government is focused on creating a friendly environment for global partners while maintaining clear and effective immigration standards.
