Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said Bangladesh's economy will rebound if the budget for the current fiscal year is implemented properly.

He made the remarks on Saturday while speaking to journalists after inspecting renovation work on the Ishan Mistri Hat Road in Chattogram's Bandar area.

The finance minister said foreign investors were showing increasing interest in Bangladesh and expressed confidence that the country would become a major destination for foreign investment in the coming years.

He said the government was working to transform Chattogram into the country's principal logistics hub. "Once the port, economic zones and free zones become fully operational, economic activities in the region will gain fresh momentum and the overall landscape of Chattogram will change," he said.

The minister added that many foreign investors, particularly from China, were keen to invest in Bangladesh. He said the government was putting in place the policy support and infrastructure needed to facilitate those investments.

Referring to the economic zone in Anwara, he said the government would provide all necessary assistance for its implementation, including the land and infrastructure required by investors.

He also said the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council had approved the proposed Chinese Economic Zone and that the project would proceed as planned.

According to the minister, the expansion of economic activity would help establish Chattogram as Bangladesh's commercial capital in the true sense.

Earlier, during his inspection of the road repair work, he instructed the authorities concerned to complete the project as quickly as possible to reduce public suffering.

Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Shahadat Hossain, Chattogram Development Authority Chairman Engineer Belayet Hossain and Chattogram city BNP Joint Convener MA Aziz were among those present during the visit.
