Six firefighter teams stop blaze at Chawkbazar market

Firefighters in Bangladesh have put out a fire at a busy market in Old Dhaka after a 90-minute rescue operation.

The fire started on Saturday at the Haji Abul Bashar Super Market, a multi-storey building near Chawk Moghaltuli in the Chawkbazar area. The fire service received an emergency call at around 1:45 pm after someone spotted flames on the third floor of the building.

Two fire engines arrived first to fight the flames. As the fire grew, four more crews from the Siddik Bazar Fire Station rushed to the scene to help. Working together, the six firefighting units stopped the flames from spreading and brought the fire fully under control by 3:15 pm.

Anwarul Islam, a spokesman for the Fire Service and Civil Defence, confirmed the timeline of the rescue operation. He shared the welcome news that no one died or was injured during the incident.

The site is now safe, and fire officials are checking the building to find out exactly how the fire started. They are also looking into how much damage the fire caused to the market.
