Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has congratulated US President Donald Trump and the American people on the country's 250th Independence Day, highlighting recent progress in Bangladesh-US cooperation on trade, energy and investment.
In a letter sent on Saturday, the prime minister extended his "warmest felicitations" on behalf of the Government and people of Bangladesh.
"On behalf of the Government and the people of Bangladesh, and on my own behalf, I extend our warmest felicitations to you and the people of your great country, the United States of America, on the momentous milestone of your 250th Independence Day," he wrote.
Tarique Rahman expressed confidence in Trump's leadership, saying the United States was "on track for further greatness in the decades to come".
He said the 250th anniversary celebrations served as an inspiration to people around the world through the American dream, sacrifice, freedom, values, traditions and the country's contributions to the international community.
The prime minister described the United States as a longstanding friend and development partner of Bangladesh since the country's independence. He said bilateral relations had expanded over the past five decades into a broad partnership covering trade, investment, education, defence and strong people-to-people ties.
Focusing on economic cooperation, he said Bangladesh and the United States had entered "a new chapter" in their relationship, with significant progress made since the beginning of the year in trade, energy cooperation and investment. He also expressed appreciation for continued US support in addressing the Rohingya humanitarian crisis.
"Rest assured that my government and I will continue to work with you and your administration to further strengthen and deepen our partnership in the areas of our shared interests," he wrote.
The prime minister concluded by wishing President Trump good health, a long life and continued success, while expressing hopes for lasting peace, prosperity and happiness for the American people.
