Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday unveiled a commemorative postage stamp to mark National Rural Development Day 2026, reaffirming the importance of rural development in Bangladesh's national progress.
The ceremony was held at the Cabinet Division Office in the Bangladesh Secretariat, where the prime minister unveiled the stamp carrying the theme "Developed Villages, Prosperous Nation: Bangladesh First", according to Prime Minister's Deputy Secretary Md Suzauddhowla (Sujon Mahmud).
A commemorative postage stamp worth Taka 10, a first-day cover and a Taka 5 data card were also released to mark the occasion.
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, State Minister Mir Shahe Alam and the ministry's Secretary Md Shahidul Hasan attended the event.
National Rural Development Day is observed annually on 6 July. To commemorate the occasion, the Bangladesh Post Office issues special postage stamps, first-day covers and data cards each year.
The initiative is intended to recognise the contribution of the rural economy and rural development to the country's overall progress while raising public awareness of the significance of the day.
